While meditation is widely known for its relaxation and calming effects, it’s important to know that the effects of meditations and pranayama taught in Kundalini Yoga vary depending on the exercise. There are hundreds of kriyas and meditations that are specifically designed to achieve a particular result. While some exercises are designed to relax and down-regulate, some are designed to stimulate the mind and increase alertness or physical energy.

Myth #2
“I will never get into that pose”.
Every person has their own range of motion and flexibility. By working with the breath and cultivating a healthy relationship of acceptance and compassion with your body, you may realize that patience and practice can go a long way in achieving the status you seek. Recall the yogic adage: “The body follows the mind; the mind follows the breath”. Remember that the goal of yoga is to cultivate equilibrium and union with the divine within you.

Kundalini Yoga is dangerous.
Everything that has the potential to heal also has the potential to destroy. Kundalini Yoga is a powerful practice that should be practiced under a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher and in the spirit of reverence. Due to the neuro-chemical changes that are made within the brain and nervous system while practicing this form of yoga, it’s important to refrain from drugs or alcohol to avoid any unintended effects.

Kundalini Yoga is for advanced yoga practitioners.
Though KY is a powerful practice and may deliver results more quickly than other types of yoga, Kundalini Yoga meets you where you are. There are kriyas and exercises for every level ranging from beginner to advanced. In some cases, modifications can be made to the duration of exercises or in the modification of postures for those with limited range or physical concerns.
